This is a general notice to inform all residents that the village will be enforcing Ordinance Section 8-1-6 – Regulating of Length of Lawn, Grasses & Weeds.

The Village Board has received several complaints about numerous properties around the Village that have tall grasses and weeds (including Canadian thistles) that have been allowed to accumulate & re-pollinate on several lots around the village limits.

In an effort to clean up the appearance of our village to potential new residents & businesses the Village Board will be fully enforcing this ordinance. In Section 8-1-6 the Village Board finds that lawns, grasses and noxious weeds on lots or parcels of land, within the Village of Livingston which exceeds eight (8) inches in length adversely affect the public health and safety of the public in that they tend to emit pollen and other discomforting bits of plants, constitute a fire hazard and a safety hazard in that debris can be hidden in the grass, which interferes with the public convenience and adversely affects property values of other land within the Village.

If you know that you are in violation of the above mention ordinance please be aware that this is to be considered your informal notice that you are in violation of the village Ordinance Section 8-1-6. The Village Board will allow all current violators 30 days from receipt of this notice to get their tall grasses and/or weeds cut.

In cases where the owner, occupant or person in charge of the property fails to cut his lawn, grass or weeds as set forth in Ordinance, then, and in that event, the Village will elect to cut said lawn, grass or weeds from the subject’s property and shall charge the expenses of doing so at a rate of Fifty Dollars per hour ($50.00) with a minimum charge of $50.00. Property owners will be billed. If statement is not paid within 30 days the Village Clerk-Treasurer shall enter the charges on the tax roll as a special tax against the said lot or parcel of land.
